Submerged by the lava of Mount Vesuvius during the eruption of 79, Ercolano was rediscovered by chance in 1709 after the excavations for a well. The works to restore it to light began in 1738 and were interrupted several times over the course of the years. Today it is possible to visit this ancient city once the heart of an active and dynamic society.
