Prato della Valle is one of the undisputed symbols of the city of Padua and a real pride for the local citizens. It is a square of incredible size, second in size only to the Red Square in Moscow. This square is in fact 88620 square meters wide and is characterized by an entirely green central island surrounded by a channel of about 1.5 kilometers adorned with 78 states representing famous characters of the past. To access the island you have to take the suggestive 4 bridges that cross the surrounding channel and reach the heart of the green island that is today the fulcrum of the city of Padua, where Paduan citizens ride their bikes or relax in the summer sun and which was once a stage for fairs, horse races and exhibitions of all kinds. Prato della Valle could be defined as the beating heart of the city: it hosts fruit and vegetable markets, the classic Paduan market on Saturdays and the antiques market, every third Sunday of the month!

Piazza dei Signori, certainly smaller than Prato della Valle, is still an important city living room, the center of the social life of Padua. The square is dominated by the Clock Tower, a building of medieval origin dating back to the fourteenth century equipped with the famous astronomical clock designed by Jacopo Dondi. The bell tower on which the imposing clock is affixed can be visited every Friday and Saturday of the month from 9.30 am until 11.45 am. On the giant dial of the clock, the oldest machine of its kind preserved in the world, are depicted all the signs of the zodiac except one... to you find out which one!
